About

Hi I’m Kai (Carolin) Reichert, the founder and maker behind Form + Function.

I build furniture that dovetails form, function and fine craftsmanship. I appreciate the unique character of each piece of wood and work with the material to achieve harmonious designs.

I graduated in 2017 from the The Building Crafts College in London with a Fine Furniture Making degree and certificates in Level 2 Bench Joinery and Wood Machining. I was awarded the Livery Company Prize from the Carpenters’ Company, presented by Princess Anne, in 2017.

I thrive on being part of a community of like-minded makers, where I can continually learn and be inspired. I currently live and work in Amsterdam and I’m part of the Vakvrouwen Collective, a group of female furniture makers.

Get in touch to talk about commissions, large or small. My studio is in The Netherlands but I’m open to working on projects elsewhere in Europe or the UK. You can contact me in English, German or Dutch at kai@formfunction.design.

What some of my recent clients have said:

“Working with Carolin and the team was a dream. We knew more or less what we wanted and Carolin collaborated with us, adding great ideas and suggestions to the mix. She presented us with mock-ups to help us visualise and always came to meetings prepared with samples so we could see how the shelves would look in situ. We love them – they add a really stylish element to the room and it’s great to have our books back out again. Thanks to you all for your promptness, courtesy and great communication throughout!”
